My Favorite Knife | Brucklacher

With its warmth, medieval charm and living tradition, the tranquil town of Reutlingen welcomes numerous visitors from all over the world year after year. The gateway to the Swabian Alb, the nickname of the Baden-Württemberg city, has another curiosity worth mentioning: With an average width of just 40 cm, Spreuerhofstraße is considered the narrowest street in the world - including an entry in the famous Guinness Book of Records. Another record-breaker is the small Brucklacher company, which has been in business since 1888 and specialises in Solingen steel goods and has a nationwide appeal for friends of high-quality knives, scissors and weapons.

Gottlob Brucklacher founded a forge with a shop for knives and hunting weapons in the late 19th century. Since 2006, the company has been run by Michael and Gisela Wurster, the fourth generation of the family to do so, with heart and soul. The main focus is on the sale of cutlery, sporting weapons and souvenir articles. Furthermore, a sharpening shop is attached, so that the clientele is also offered a comprehensive service package after the purchase. Even formative events such as wars, economic crises or the Corona Pandemic could not shake one of Reutlingen's most enduring pillars in over 135 years. The recipe for success has always been to adapt to changing conditions and requirements without losing sight of the company's historical roots and values. Tailor-made advice on site, an extensive range of products in the shop and online shop as well as the Swabian cosiness are good reasons why customers keep coming back or sometimes travel several hundred kilometres to get here. Tradition binds, because for many the business is a vivid childhood memory that makes you feel like a child again: "Sometimes grandparents or parents come into the shop with their children, who used to press their noses flat against the shop window themselves when they were children." The well-dosed expansion of the assortment, for example flags for the 2006 World Cup, is often a door opener for further, future sales. And when a high-quality, long-lasting chef's knife is needed later, the right contact person is found immediately. A customer once said to me: "I'm too poor to buy a cheap knife," says the owner. "Good quality may be more expensive at first, but it is the cheapest in the long run. Good blades can be re-sharpened again and again, so that a knife becomes a loyal companion for life." Many customers share this view, so that the knife sharpening service is always very popular.

The Boker Plus Lockback Bubinga is also in great demand. "A practical pocket knife with nail nick and modern back lock combines classic flair with high functionality and timeless character. The ideal two-handed knife for everyday use with the usual Boker quality."
Michael and Gisela Wurster are already looking forward to their customers' next visit to find their next knife in a rustic, relaxed atmosphere.
