My Favorite Knife | Kitchen Factory

"Ahoy - and always a hand's breadth of water under your keel!" is still the motto in Warnemünde, a once sleepy fishing village in the north of Rostock. But since the beginning of the 19th century, the small town has developed into one of the most important harbour towns in Germany. In addition to being the most important cruise port in the country, Warnemünde is known for its sailing regattas with folk festival character, which attract numerous visitors every year. In addition, the town was awarded the title of "seaside resort", which refers to the outstanding conditions for the implementation of spa measures in combination with the beneficial sea climate.

The Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde, as it is officially and fully known, is thus a magnet for numerous tourists as well as spa patients. In 2003, a remarkable captain docked with his cog and from then on, northernised the local people in the world of knives. Udo Scharkowski first navigated as a machinist before turning port in 1990 to earn his living with jewellery and costume jewellery. Only a little later he started dealing in cutlery, which eventually brought him to Solingen. "There I quickly got a connection to cutlery, which I was very enthusiastic about." Eventually, his passion led him into calmer waters, so the native Rhinelander founded the Kitchen Factory in Warnemünde. On 30m² you will find a varied assortment of chef's knives, pocket knives, scissors of all kinds as well as various kitchen accessories. The customers particularly appreciate the owner's Rhenish, level-headed manner as well as the expert advice - without any sailor's yarn. One or two insider tips for knives and kitchens come free of charge. In addition to a steadily growing regular clientele, it is mainly tourists who take a look at the Kitchen Factory and are taken on a grand harbour tour of the world of knives by Udo Scharkowski.

The Boker Winzermesser must not be missing on board the Kitchen Factory. The versatile talent has a main blade made of 4034 steel, a cap lifter and a corkscrew. The scales are made from the oak wood of time-honoured red wine barrels. "At a picnic with friends, the Boker winegrower's knife is always with you. Whether for the wine bottle, a beer or a refreshing cola. In addition, the knife is easy to carry in the pocket and is extremely catchy in its handling."

When the longing for the sound of the sea and the sea air grows, when body and soul long for relaxation, it's time to cast off and head for Warnemünde. But don't be surprised: The compass is heading for the Kitchen Factory for a short trip.
