At first glance, an axe as a neck knife may be puzzling. But anyone who first picks up the Böker Plus Hawkit from Jon Graham instantly realizes that this is indeed a tool to be taken seriously. While splitting wood and cutting down trees is admittedly not the domain of the Neck Axe, the Hawkit is a real helper as a small knife, nail puller, mini crowbar, bottle opener, and for loosening shackles or holding bits. 440C blade steel, symmetric grind. Shipped with kydex sheath and ball chain.

Warning and safety information:
Cut injuries: The most common danger when using knives is the risk of cuts. Sharp blades can quickly penetrate skin and tissue.
Slipping of the knife: Improper or excessive pressure can cause the knife to slip, resulting in uncontrolled movements that can cause injuries.
Injuries due to falls: Knives should never be left unsecured or near table edges to prevent them from falling and injuring someone.
Blunt knives: Blunt knives pose a greater risk of injury as they require more force and can slip more easily. Knives should therefore be properly sharpened regularly.
Improper use: Using a knife for tasks for which it is not intended (e.g. as a lever tool) can not only damage the blade, but also lead to accidents.

Besser als erwartet

Das Hawkit ist besser als erwartet. Bequem zu tragen ist es in jedem Fall, da es schön leicht, kompakt und flach ist. Die Kydexscheide mit der Kugelkette hält es auch kopfüber sehr sicher, trägt nicht auf und lässt sich mit etwas Paracord und Kreativität an zahllosen Stellen befestigen.
Trotz der geringen Größe lässt sich das Hawkit auch mit grossen Händen gut handhaben, was vor allem an den gut positionieren Rillen und Mulden und den sauber gerundeten Kanten liegt.
Die enthaltenen Funktionen sind durchaus alltagstauglich. Die Klinge ist sehr sauber geschliffen und für leichte Arbeiten (Stifte oder Stöcke Anspitzen, Äpfel schälen, Papier und Folien schneiden, ...) immer noch ausreichend groß. Der Flaschenöffner ist etwas ungewohnt positioniert, funktioniert aber durch die Hebellänge und gute Form einwandfrei. Die längliche Öffnung im Griff erleichtert das Drehen von z.B. Schäkeln oder Schraubringösen. Mit ein paar O-Ringen kann man dort auch einen Bit, z.B. einen Philips 2, sicher transportieren, sodass man wie bei einem Schweizer Taschenmesser für viele Fälle ausreichend bestückt ist. Die Standard-Bitaufnahme ist zwar nicht magnetisch, hält man aber den Daumen drauf, kann man damit durchaus arbeiten ohne vom Bit zu rutschen. Der Nagelzieher ist für Reißzwecken, Tacker-oder Heftklammern super, bei Nägeln muss man allerdings etwas unterlegen, da sonst einfach der Hebelweg nicht reicht. Davon abgesehen ist der Nagelzieher oder der schmale Schraubendreher eine große Hilfe beim Öffnen von z.B. Farb- oder Getränkedosen. Die 4mm Materialstärke wirken sehr vertrauenerweckend. Ein weiteres Plus ist die sehr pflegeleichte Konstruktion, da es keine engen Ecken gibt, in denen sich Schmutz festsetzen könnte. Bei Bedarf kann man das Hawkit auch komplett sterilisieren. Nur einen Kritikpunkt gibt es. Es ist für die Hosentasche konstruktionsbedingt eher nicht geeignet, da der Nagelzieher auch ohne scharfe Kanten bei angewinkelten Beinen die Tasche beschädigen oder den Träger verletzen kann. Es gibt aber genug andere Tragemöglichkeiten, sodass das kein Grund wäre das Hawkit nicht zu kaufen.
Wer also ein kompaktes, leichtes und trotzdem robustes Hebelwerkzeug sucht, das auch leichte Schneidarbeiten bewältigt, ist meiner Einschätzung mit dem Hawkit gut bedient.
