We were thrilled from the start with this design by John W. Smith from Kentucky. His "SD" series unifies classic elements of modern folding knife design with a pleasantly no-frills design. And his knives are always as useful as they are elegant. The ball-bearing-mounted blade locks with a liner lock and is made of the powder metallurgical steel CPM-154, which is also very popular with American custom design knife makers. The bolsters and plates are made of titanium and completed with an orange peel finish, which looks very elegant in combination with the brushed linen Micarta handle scales. The satin finished blade is opened with the thumb disc, which can also be removed, without leaving any gap, if needed in order to convert the knife to two-hand operation. The blanked out clip (tip-up) ensures that the knife sits deep in your pocket.

Warning and safety information:
Cut injuries: The most common danger when using knives is the risk of cuts. Sharp blades can quickly penetrate skin and tissue.
Slipping of the knife: Improper or excessive pressure can cause the knife to slip, resulting in uncontrolled movements that can cause injuries.
Injuries due to falls: Knives should never be left unsecured or near table edges to prevent them from falling and injuring someone.
Blunt knives: Blunt knives pose a greater risk of injury as they require more force and can slip more easily. Knives should therefore be properly sharpened regularly.
Improper use: Using a knife for tasks for which it is not intended (e.g. as a lever tool) can not only damage the blade, but also lead to accidents.

John W. Smith is a full-time Knife Maker since 1993 and a member of the American Knife Makers Guild. Most of his designs are Pocketknives, for them he uses preferably natural materials such as mother-of-pearl or stone. Above all his detailed file works and engravings make his knives very special. It is not uncommon for him to use solid 14K gold for screws and thumb studs.
