Ask any Norwegian today what his or her first knife was, and the answer will be “speiderkniv med raud tupp”: The scout knife with the red butt. Helle can trace the origin of these knives back to 1947, when they made the first scout knife with a red butt. The current designs with the girl and boy scout and their traditional scout outfits dates back to 1971. The knife was designed and is still today produced with two clear intentions. First, that even though the knife will be used by a child, it should be a proper tool. This means that it is sharp and has a functional handle suitable for smaller hands. Second, that it is safe. The two-way guard prevents hands slipping onto the blade, and the snap-button sheath means that once properly stowed the knife will remain there after use.

Warning and safety information:
Cut injuries: The most common danger when using knives is the risk of cuts. Sharp blades can quickly penetrate skin and tissue.
Slipping of the knife: Improper or excessive pressure can cause the knife to slip, resulting in uncontrolled movements that can cause injuries.
Injuries due to falls: Knives should never be left unsecured or near table edges to prevent them from falling and injuring someone.
Blunt knives: Blunt knives pose a greater risk of injury as they require more force and can slip more easily. Knives should therefore be properly sharpened regularly.
Improper use: Using a knife for tasks for which it is not intended (e.g. as a lever tool) can not only damage the blade, but also lead to accidents.

Helle

It all began in 1932, when brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle turned their passion into a profession in a small forge on their family farm in the picturesque village of Holmedal on the breathtaking west coast of Norway. Inspired by their father, the village blacksmith, they set about designing knives that perfectly combine form and function. Today, their legacy lives on as their grandchildren continue to work with skilled local craftsmen in the same village. Surrounded by majestic mountains and deep fjords, the Helle team is still driven by the same mission: To make knives that not only work, but also connect with the beauty of nature.
