The world of knives is driven by passion, experience, and personal stories. One of those stories comes from Ben Röstel of the Messerworld team. He joined the company in 2019, starting his apprenticeship at Messerworld. Today, he is a permanent member of the team working alongside Winfried, Marion, and Kevin Diessner and has long since found his home in the knife industry.
However, his first encounter with knives came much earlier—thanks to his father. One Christmas morning, when Ben was about twelve years old, he found a Boker Magnum waiting for him under the tree. It quickly became his go-to companion for carving and marked his first real introduction to the world of knives.
Despite this early start, knives did not initially play a major role in his everyday life. That changed once he began his apprenticeship and started working at Messerworld. Day by day, his interest grew, and over time he developed a deeper understanding of materials, mechanisms, and designs. Along the way, he also began building a small personal knife collection.
Messerworld itself has a long history by now. The company was founded around 1999 as a small side project. Over the years, it has grown into a well-established retailer with several employees and has become a recognized name within the knife community.
Messerworld also shares a particularly close relationship with Boker. The partnership has now spanned around 25 years and is characterized by a strong and friendly working relationship. There may not be one single standout anecdote, but many personal encounters remain memorable. Visits from the Boker representative in Berlin are always warm and welcoming, and meeting the Böker team at various trade shows is a highlight for the Messerworld crew. Johannes, who manages social media at Messerworld, even had the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the Boker manufacturing facility.
When Ben is asked about his personal favorite knife, the answer comes instantly: the Magnum Rockstub—especially in blue. The color is what makes this model stand out to him. While many knives come in classic shades like black, coyote, or OD green, the blue version adds a fresh and eye-catching twist to the everyday carry world.
But the Rockstub impresses with more than just its looks. For its price point, the knife delivers remarkable performance. The lock mechanism in particular stands out: it is solid, precise, and can also be used perfectly as an opening aid. Combined with an exceptionally smooth action, the knife offers a user experience that, according to Ben, can easily compete with some knives in the 200€ range.
The Rockstub is also very popular with customers. Those who are not fans of the blue version can choose from two additional color options. The steel performs reliably in everyday use, and the pleasantly compact design makes it an ideal EDC companion.
There is now also an upgraded version of the model: the Boker Plus Rockstub. This variant features high-quality Swedish 14C28N steel and is aimed at users who want to take materials and performance one step further.
And who knows—maybe there will be another dream version someday. If the Rockstub were ever released with MagnaCut steel and titanium handle scales, Ben Röstel is certain of one thing: it would immediately find its way into his collection as well.
