My Favorite Knife | Messer Rödter

In the small town of Aalen near the Swabian Alb, tradition can be written with its head held high. The name probably goes back to the Latin word "Ala" and refers to a cavalry unit of the Roman army. Numerous relics such as the strategically important military garrison "Kastell Aalen" testify to the far-reaching influences of the Imperium Romanum and still characterize the historic townscape today.

"Carpent tua poma nepotes! - Your grandchildren will bear your fruits." said the Roman poet Virgil, who may have been referring to the success of the Rödter knifemaking dynasty across generations. Although there are no confirmed excavations of a Roman gladius short sword with the Rödter label, there are numerous blades in Spitalstraße 5 today that would have aroused the interest of many a gladiator. In 1909, the master cutler Gottlieb Rödter opened a steelware store, which his grandson Karl Gottlieb has continued in the third generation since 1988, complete with master craftsman's certificate. The focus is on the sale, forging and sharpening of knives. Craftsmanship and a fascination for knives have been in the owner's DNA since early childhood: "My first knife was given to me by my parents. It was a youth travel knife with a round deer horn handle and brown leather sheath." But the joy of teaching has also always remained with Karl Gottlieb Rödter. Thus, he gives his customers the final touches for the perfect sharpness of their home knives during sharpening courses.

Contact with Boker was established in the early 1980s and has been continuously intensified ever since. The factory visits in particular always brought new insights that Karl Gottlieb Rödter was able to use for new impulses in his everyday professional life.

The Boker Plus Caballero also presents itself as very suitable for everyday use. The knightly appearance of the two-handed knife would also have pleased Roman legionaries, as it always provides reliable service on the rampage of everyday cutting tasks and lacks nothing in classic appeal: "Good steel, pleasant case, can be easily carried in the pocket and should not be missing on any outing. My savvy regular customers also appreciate the balanced ratio of handle length to blade length."
