Ricasso

The ricasso is the ground but not sharpened part of the blade. The transition from the ricasso to the sharp blade is called the insert. Pronounced ricassos are often found on pocket knives with dagger blades, because the additional grinding of the back of the blade emphasizes the optical symmetry without posing a risk of injury. False sharpening on the back of the blade is also known as "false edge".
